Wedding video tips: Expert wedding tips

Organising your wedding videos

Photographs are the traditional, formal record of a wedding, but they don’t always capture the atmosphere of the day.

Having your wedding filmed means that everyone gets a chance to see each aspect of the day. There are moments in a wedding day that some people miss. For instance, the bride will never see the guests arriving and the groom never sees the moment when the bride arrives.

Many people worry that the person filming may get in the way - and if you don’t hire a professional this could be the case.

So how do you choose the right person to film your wedding?

- Choose carefully. They need to be professional, with a lot of experience.

- Make sure that they have professional equipment. Ask what sort of camera they use. Does the camera have an interchangeable lens? Generally this means it is broadcast quality, and you can then safely assume that the rest of their kit is professional.

- Look at their previous work, and make sure there are plenty of videos you like.

- Make sure you meet the camera operator personally; don’t deal with salespeople or agents.

- Make sure you get on - they’ll be an integral part of your day so only choose someone you like.

- Draw up a shortlist of three, across a range of prices, before finally making your decision.
